Dr Dona M P Jayakody currently works as a Senior Research Audiologist at Ear Science Institute Australia. She is also an Adjunct Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia. Dona received her PhD in Audiology from the Department of Communication Disorders at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand in 2012. DJ has also worked as a Cochlear Implant Audiologist at Ear Science Institute Australia, Research Audiologist at the Southern Cochlear Implant Program and Clinical Educator for the Masters of Audiology students at the University of Canterbury. She was instrumental in establishing the Audiology and Speech, Language Pathology Department at Durdans Hospital, Colombo, Sri Lanka and National Cochlear Implant Programme in Sri Lanka. In addition, Dona helped set up the Audiology Laboratory at the Ceylon School for the Deaf and Blind, providing support for teachers there with Auditory Verbal Therapy training. In 2006, she was given an award for her contribution to the National Cochlear Implant programme in Sri Lanka.

Dona leads number of research studies that investigate the association between peripheral and central hearing loss and cognitive impairment and the impact of hearing loss treatment using cochlear implants and hearing aids on cognitive functions and mental health. Dona was also part of the research team that investigated the psychophysical aspects of auditory processing in various subject groups, including cochlear implant recipients which was funded through the NHMRC grant scheme. Dona has presented at more than 60 national and international conferences.
