to provide support through fellowship for implant recipients, their families and friends
WHAT WE DO
CICADA provides a forum for cochlear implant recipients, and for prospective recipients, to meet
and interact with other cochlear implant recipients in a social context.
Nobody can explain better to a prospective implantee what it is like to have a cochlear implant
than a person who uses one. While doctors and audiologists can tell you what procedures are involved
and what results may be achieved, they cannot add the dimension of personal experience the way a
recipient can.
The best thing any prospective recipient can do prior to receiving a cochlear implant is to spend
time with a person who has one. Indeed it would be beneficial for the whole family to meet with one
or more recipients and their families.
Equally important are the ongoing contacts made this way, and through a number of CICADA functions
organised throughout the year for members, their families and friends.
