BRAIN & HEARING

I joined Ear Science with an ambition to be a part of the change in hearing health care. I want to understand the experiences of people with hearing loss and contribute to research and innovation to meet future needs.

Emma is passionate about improving how audiology services are delivered to those who need them. As a clinical audiologist, Emma has worked with adults and families trying to navigate the complex hearing healthcare system in Australia. She saw the challenges people with hearing loss faced in accessing audiological care and deciding what interventions would work best for them. She is taking her knowledge of clinical practice and her ongoing experiences teaching the next generation of audiologists at UWA into the research field, starting her PhD in January 2022.

Her research aims to ensure users of cochlear implants are matched with high-quality, up-to-date care personalized to their needs. Using research methods involving the users of cochlear implants and providers the services from the initial design stage right through to implementation, she hopes to affect real change in both the clinics and the wider community.

Areas of research
  • Service delivery models to increase accessibility and participation through early detection and intervention.
  • Cochlear implant research
