Graduate Audiologist Program FAQs

The graduate program usually begins early in January, typically in the second or third week of the month. Exact dates are confirmed closer to the end of the year. Incoming graduates are encouraged to take a break after their final semester over the Christmas period before starting in the new year.
The program is closely aligned with Audiology Australia guidelines and follows a structured four-quarter supervision model. In the first quarter, graduates receive at-elbow supervision to build confidence with clients and clinic procedures. The first six weeks typically include a mix of close supervision and training delivered by the training team. This is followed by around six weeks of extended appointment times and additional observation as needed. By the second quarter, usually around April, graduates are generally ready to manage their own client load at standard appointment lengths, with ongoing support from supervisors, managers, and the training team. Check-ins continue throughout the year and gradually become less frequent as the program progresses.
Graduates are usually supported by both a primary and a secondary supervisor. In most cases, at least one of these supervisors is based in the same clinic as the graduate. While this is not always possible, every effort is made to provide a practical and supportive supervision arrangement.
Exact clinic placements are usually confirmed closer to the program start date, as they depend on staffing movements and operational decisions. Typically, there are three graduate positions each year: one in the metropolitan area north of the river, one in the metropolitan area south of the river, and one regional placement in Bunbury.
If you have a location preference, whether north of the river, south of the river, or regional, please let the team know. This can help with planning placement options and supervision structures.
Lions Hearing Clinics provide a range of adult aural rehabilitation services for hearing aid users. Your clinical work may include hearing assessments, hearing device fittings, follow-up appointments, annual reviews, consultations, and screening appointments.
All hearing implant services, including pre-operative and post-operative care, as well as diagnostic vestibular assessments, are centralised through the Ear Science Implant Clinic. Graduate placements in Lions Hearing Clinics do not typically include direct exposure to delivering these services.

All Ear Science Institute Australia staff, including our graduate audiologists, receiving exposure and upskilling to the latest research and innovations across hearing implants and vestibular services through our monthly internal Symposia series. Graduates are supported to develop skills in identifying suitable hearing implant candidates and managing referrals to the implant clinic team.
The program offers a supportive environment designed to help graduates build clinical confidence and capability. Graduates gain exposure to a wide range of leading hearing aid manufacturers, current research, and innovation across Ear Science Institute Australia and its partner network. The organisation places a strong emphasis on ongoing professional development and evidence-based clinical practice, making it an excellent place to stay up to date with developments in audiology. QP Audiologists at Ear Science Institute Australia receive a personal training fund to support ongoing attendance of Audiology Australia Endorsed events and similar activities.
Graduates are supported by an operations team with strong clinical experience, including audiologists in management roles across Ear Science Institute Australia. This includes area managers, senior operational leaders, and executive leadership, supported by governance that also includes audiology and ENT expertise. This clinical focus helps ensure that operational decisions remain strongly client-centred and aligned with high standards of clinical excellence. In addition to managers and supervisors, clinical trainers provide ongoing coaching, education, and practical support throughout the graduate year.

Testimonials

"Lions Hearing Clinic and the Ear Science Institute Australia were my first choice for a graduate program because I wanted to work in a research-driven, not-for-profit environment that offered broad exposure across audiology specialisations. My graduate year delivered exactly that, working alongside researchers, implant and vestibular specialists, and a variety of hearing aid manufacturers helped me build strong technical skills, confidence, and the ability to provide tailored, effective care. The mentorship I received from experienced leaders, including CEO Sandra Bellekom, was invaluable, with a clear and consistent focus on clinical excellence and client outcomes." - Holly Menegola, Area Manager SOR, Lions Hearing Clinics

"Since completing my graduate year, I’ve had access to diverse opportunities for growth, including working across clinics, contributing to clinical research, participating in community outreach, and progressing into an Area Manager role. Lions Hearing Clinic and Ear Science Institute Australia are truly unique in offering a career grounded in research, continuous development, and exposure to all aspects of audiology—making them an excellent choice for audiologists seeking meaningful, growth-oriented careers." - Jaydon, Audiologist, Lions Hearing Clinic Winthrop

"The introduction training at the start of the internship was brilliant, it was well structured and comprehensive. It allowed me to gain better understanding of HSP, appointment requirements (the Lions standard), test protocols (which varies slightly from one university to anther) and online resources within the institute (which I found very helpful for learning and troubleshooting). The ongoing supervision is amazing! I appreciate the opportunity to sit in and being observed by different supervisors. It allows me to see how things are explained in a different style, and has helped me significantly in developing my own style." - Audiologist
