Ear Science Institute Australia welcomes Dr Ali Al-Rubaie as a Senior Honorary Researcher. His appointment strengthens our research connection with Monash University and creates new opportunities to explore genetic hearing loss, stem cell research and advanced medical imaging.
Expertise spanning stem cells, genetics and imaging
Dr Al-Rubaie is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences at Monash University. He completed his PhD at Monash University in the field of stem cells, with a focus on lung injury and stem cell therapy. He also brings experience in genetic sequencing, bioinformatics, stem cell culture and differentiation, and preclinical research.
This broad expertise complements Ear Science’s multidisciplinary approach. It also supports our commitment to bringing researchers, clinicians and innovators together to advance research into ear and hearing disorders.
Ear Science welcomes Dr Ali Al-Rubaie to a new collaboration
Dr Al-Rubaie will work with Dr David Sly and the Ear Science research team to identify projects that combine expertise and technologies across both organisations. Together, the teams will investigate new ways to understand the structure and function of the ear.
Potential projects include stem cell models for genetic hearing loss, including GJB2-related hearing loss. The collaboration may also apply advanced imaging to human, animal and stem cell models. In addition, researchers will explore new ways to visualise the cochlea, middle ear and tympanic membrane.
Artificial intelligence and emerging imaging platforms offer further opportunities. By combining these technologies with research expertise, the teams aim to generate new insights and shape future studies.
A shared focus on research translation
Dr Al-Rubaie and his colleagues at Monash University share Ear Science’s focus on research with the potential for translation and commercialisation. Therefore, the appointment creates a strong foundation for future research projects, student collaborations and competitive grant opportunities.
Dr Al-Rubaie’s appointment expands the expertise connected to Ear Science. It also opens new pathways for collaboration that can accelerate discovery and, ultimately, improve outcomes for people living with ear and hearing disorders.
We warmly welcome Dr Al-Rubaie to the Ear Science research community and look forward to the possibilities this collaboration will create.
