No. You can book a comprehensive hearing assessment directly with Lions Hearing Clinic. A written medical referral is only needed if you want to claim an eligible Medicare rebate for a diagnostic hearing assessment.
Eligible pensioners can access a fully subsidised hearing assessment and a choice of fully subsidised hearing aids through the Hearing Services Program. More advanced devices may involve an additional contribution. The program also supports fitting, follow-up and maintenance arrangements.
Most people adjust gradually over several weeks as the brain becomes familiar with sounds it has not heard clearly for some time. Follow-up appointments allow your audiologist to fine-tune the devices for comfort, clarity and your everyday listening needs.
Your devices are ordered and usually arrive within about two weeks. At the fitting appointment, your audiologist programs them to your hearing loss, checks the fit and teaches you how to use and care for them. A follow-up is generally arranged about two weeks later.

A Commonwealth Seniors Health Card alone does not provide eligibility.
