What is World Hearing Day:
World Hearing Day is an annual advocacy event held on the 3rd of March – the 3rd of the 3rd (the two 3s look like ears)! The day aims to raise awareness and promote ear and hearing care across the world. It is a World Health Organization initiative, supported by a number of organisations around the world.
2019 Theme: Check Your Hearing
On World Hearing Day 2019, WHO will draw attention to the importance of early identification and intervention for hearing loss. Many people live with unidentified hearing loss, often failing to realise that they are missing out on certain sounds and words. Checking your hearing is the first step towards addressing this issue.
The Facts:
Hearing loss is on the rise.
Unless action is taken, by 2030 there will be nearly 630 million people with disabling hearing loss; by 2050, the number could rise to over 900 million.*
