Ear Science Institute Australia and Monash University have entered into a formal Affiliation Agreement, recognising Ear Science Institute Australia as an Affiliate of Monash University and strengthening collaboration in medical research, education and training focused on hearing and ear health.
The affiliation builds on an established history of collaboration between the two organisations and provides a framework to support joint research activity, academic supervision and education initiatives, while enabling each organisation to pursue its respective strategic priorities.
Under the agreement, Ear Science Institute Australia and Monash University will work together, where reasonably practicable, to facilitate collaborative research, support undergraduate and postgraduate education, and encourage shared academic appointments and supervision arrangements in accordance with each institution’s policies and governance requirements.
The affiliation also reinforces shared commitments to research integrity, safety, equity and compliance with the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (2018). Research activities undertaken through the affiliation will continue to be governed by individual project agreements and funding arrangements, as applicable.
Adjunct Associate Professor Sandra Bellekom, Chief Executive Officer of Ear Science Institute Australia, said the affiliation formally recognises a long-standing and productive relationship.
“At Ear Science, we are committed to building a bridge between west and east, contributing to the nations productivity and impact for medical research and leveraging our respective strengths and funding opportunities to create a healthier country for all,” Ms Bellekom said.
Professor James Whisstock, Deputy Dean Research, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University, said the affiliation reflects Monash’s focus on working with specialist research institutes to advance education and research outcomes.
“Affiliations such as this support collaboration with organisations, leading in the specialty of hearing science, and help create opportunities for students and researchers to work across institutional boundaries,” Professor Whisstock said.
