The Honourable Mr Malcolm McCusker 


The Honourable Mr Malcolm McCusker has maintained a relationship with Ear Science since 2009 and was the 31st Governor of Western Australia, serving from July 2011 to June 2014.

Mr McCusker is a well-respected barrister and philanthropist, known for his successful representation of the wrongfully convicted in high profile cases. In 1982 Mr McCusker was appointed Queen’s Counsel and since then has chaired several legal committees. He has appeared on the High Court and Privy Council for the United Kingdom and is a part time lecturer at the University of Western Australia. In 2005 Mr McCusker was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in recognition of his contribution to the legal profession.

Mr McCusker was drawn to the Ear Science as he is a world renowned philanthropist and patron for more than 100 community organisations. He founded the McCusker Charitable Foundation which has donated over 40 million dollars to improve health and education in Western Australia and after being appointed Governor in 2011 donated his $422 678 salary to charities devoted to improving the health of indigenous people.

Mr McCusker is an avid supporter of medical research and in 2010 was recognised as Western Australian Citizen of the Year, Philanthropist of the Year and Western Australia’s Australian of the Year.

Ear Science welcomes the support of such a prominent philanthropist. Both Mr McCusker and Professor Marshall have a long standing relationship with Ear Science and a passion for assisting people with hearing loss. Ear Science recognised The Hon Mr Malcom McCusker and Professor Barry Marshall as co-patrons at the 2014 and they continue these roles today as we further advance our research to impact the future lives of many.
