Scope of Clinical Research

The Ear Science Institute Australia Clinical Research Group is engaged in a number of projects to assess surgical outcomes, ear surgery implants, and devices. We are also developing ear disease diagnosis and assessment algorithms to complement our tele-health research projects.

Nitinol Middle Ear Implant

A new thermally deformable implant with a shape memory is used extensively by LEHI surgeons in middle ear surgery. The implant is made from an alloy called Nitinol. We are investigating the surgical and hearing outcomes from the device. Early indications are that the hearing outcomes are superior to those when using other implants, and that there are no adverse reactions or complications.

Meniette

The Meniette is a device used to manage the effects of ménière's disease. LEHI have evaluated this device, and reported the findings in the medical literature.

Surgical Outcomes

Ear Science Institute Australia is developing innovative data collection and analysis techniques.
