The Making of Jordan's DVD
Jordan Smalley was born with a moderate hearing loss but managed to get by with hearing aids and
lip reading. However, by the time Jordan was of school age, he was profoundly deaf.
Persevering for the next 20 years, his frustration increased at the impact his hearing loss was having
on his social and work life.
In August 2004, Jordan was successfully fitted with a left-sided cochlear implant by Professor Marcus
Atlas and the team at the Institute. Jordan and his family allowed the Institute
to capture his remarkable experience of renewed hearing on film.
The promotional DVD that has been made from this film is a personal and inspiring journey that will be used to
raise much-needed funds for research into ear and hearing disorders. We would like to thank Jordan
and his family together with StateWest Credit Society for their generous time and contribution to
this important project.
