Health Promotion/Education Officer Do you have skills in developing health education programmes for school aged children? Do you have experience in taking health education messages to schools? Are you a good communicator who enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary team? Ear Science Institute Australia is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the research and treatment of ear and hearing disorders. ESIA, in conjunction with the UWA Ear Sciences Centre, is looking for a Health Promotion Officer to work on a hearing loss prevention programme for primary and high school aged children. The project will focus on reducing the risk of hearing loss due to exposure to high levels of personal music player sounds. Your role will include developing a programme suitable for targeted age groups, delivering the programme to schools and at ESIA’s Hearing Discovery Centre, developing and administering an evaluation of the outcomes, as well as collating and analysing project data with other team project members. You will also be responsible for sourcing relevant information for a public website and maintaining this with new information. Required skills and experience: • You will be able to demonstrate your skills in planning, developing and implementing health promotion programmes aimed at school-aged children. • Your experience in the delivery of health promotion programmes to primary and high schools will be crucial to the success of the project. • Your excellent verbal and written skills will be evident. Some skills and experience that will add value to your application: • Techniques to evaluate outcomes. • Use of online resources for research. • Use of graphics software, such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Post Graduate Opportunities Honours Ear Science Institute Australia (ESIA) currently has an opportunity for any who wish to complete an Honours Degree. The research at ESIA is currently focussed in the areas of cell culture and regeneration in addition to molecular biology. The project on offer is associated with genetic changes that occur during cellular apoptosis, which the primary cause of auditory hair cell death in noise-induced deafness. The Project The student will be examining the role of ß-actin in early apoptosis and will involve using a range of cell culture, and molecular biological techniques. Therefore, the student will be expected to possess some background or interest in these areas of research.
